SPACE DAYS OUT

Herstmonceux Observatory Visit the historical telescopes and domes and explore the interactive science centre. Much is aimed at children, but an interesting visit for adults too. Its worth checking out the radio hut in the grounds - they do radio astronomy and chat to astronauts on the ISS from here.

Royal Observatory Greenwich Planetarium, astronomy exhibitions, the history of the Observatory and Maritime history, all on one site. Plus the National Maritime Museum is just a short walk away.

INTECH Science Centre and Planetarium, Winchester UK's largest capacity Planetarium plus hands-on interactive science and technology centre.

Science Museum, London: Exploring Space Gallery Lots of information about our journey into Space so far. The Eagle is a replica, but there are two actual rockets - British Black Arrow, the other a United States Scout. This is about as good as it gets in terms of seeing real spacecraft in the UK. Unfortunately you need to go to the US or Russia for the really impressive stuff.

Kielder Observatory Built as a centre for Outreach Astronomy. You can just wander along and look at the outside, but to see inside the observatory you need to book to attend one of their events. These are listed on the Calender on their website.

Norman Lockyer ObservatoryOn a hill above Sidmouth, Devon, this site contains a number of historic telescopes and hosts active radio and visual astronomer groups. Public Open Days are organised regularly.
